Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
On Wednesday, February 9, 2011, Correctional Officer Hubert Kitchens was arrested at Hancock State Prison in Sparta. Another officer observed Kitchens wrap two large bundles and place them in the sink area of the kitchen. It was discovered to be cell phones and tobacco. Kitchens admitted to bringing the contraband for payments he had previously received. He also admitted to placing the same type of items in a state vehicle earlier that day. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office assisted.
On Saturday, February 12, 2011, Crystal McKine was arrested at Smith State Prison in Glennville. She was at the facility visiting an inmate when an officer observed her placing something in a bag and giving it to the inmate. Officers confiscated the bag and discovered marijuana. The Glennville Police Department assisted.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
