Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On Saturday, July 9, 2011, Mayosie Jairetha Davis was arrested at Telfair State Prison in Helena. She was visiting an inmate when an officer observed her passing a potato chip bag to the inmate. The bag contained five rubber balloons filled with marijuana. The Helena Police Department assisted.
2) On Saturday, July 9, 2011, Crystal Bell was arrested at Phillips Transitional Center in Buford. She was at the facility to visit an inmate when her vehicle was searched. Officers found what tested positive for marijuana and meth. The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department assisted.
3) On Sunday, July 10, 2011, Levelia Phelps was arrested at Appling Pre Release Center in Baxley. She was at the center visiting an inmate and had a cell phone in her possession. Her vehicle was also searched and authorities recovered an automatic pistol. The Appling County Sheriff's Department assisted.
4) On Monday, July 11, 2011, Alicia Thompson and Curley Lee Wade were arrested at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office pulled over a vehicle near the prison and found marijuana and loose tobacco inside. The area was also searched and authorities found bags inside a drain pipe containing tobacco and marijuana.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
