Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 515 CIVILIANS AND 92 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On October 13, 2012, a visitation shakedown was conducted at Smith State Prison. Civilian Rhonda Denise Holmes was arrested by the Glennville Police Department for bringing contraband consisting of two (2) bundles of tobacco across the guard line. Civilian Stephanie Dozier was arrested by the Glennville Police Department for the Possession of Marijuana of less than an ounce. Civilians Shanese Sanders and Michael Thomas were stopped by K-9 Officer and the Glennville Police Department and were arrested for attempting to introduce contraband into the facility. The contraband consisted of 12 cell phones and one (1) sling shot.
2) On October 14, 2012, a Mt. Vernon police officer observed Civilians Deandrea Crumbley and Shaqueta Crumbley park and drop off an item at the County Barn in Mt. Vernon. A search of the area revealed a plastic bag containing 41 packs of Bugler tobacco, eight (8) Black and Mild Cigars, 21 cans of smokeless tobacco, five (5) cell phone batteries, and three (3) ounces of marijuana. Civilians Deandrea and Shaqueta Crumbley were arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for dropping off contraband for an inmate on a county work detail.
3) On October 15, 2012, a Hancock State Prison Lieutenant noticed an inmate with a bag of candy which the facility does not carry in its vending machines. The Lieutenant asked the inmate for the bag and the inmate immediately tore the bag, swallowed most of its contents and threw it in the trash. Immediately the trash was searched and a portion of the bag was found. Officers found eight (8) small bags of THC. The Hancock Sheriff's Office was contacted and arrested Visitor Rachael Smith.
