Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 529 CIVILIANS AND 94 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On December 2, 2012, Officers observed an individual, dressed in dark clothing, walking pass Smith State Prison on Hwy 301. The Glennville Police Department was notified. The individual was apprehended and 11 cell phones, 10 cell phone chargers, 11 bundles of tobacco and two (2) packs of rolling papers were found on his person. In addition, Glennville police noticed an individual sitting in a vehicle in the Huddle House parking lot. This individual admitted to dropping off the suspect in front of the facility. Both individuals, Wayne Wicker and Wardale Lovett, were arrested by the Glennville Police Department.
2) On December 2, 2012, Civilians Erika Welcome and Nina Forest were arrested at a Ware State Prison work detail site after they were observed dropping off one (1) pound of tobacco and two (2) cell phones. The Ware County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest of Civilians Welcome and Forest.
3) On December 2, 2012, upon exiting visitation a Dooly State Prison inmate was found to be in possession of two (2) egg sized balloons filled with marijuana and a cell phone after his visitor Victoria Gardner met with him. Visitor Gardner's vehicle was searched and several balloons that matched the contraband found on the inmate was found along with an empty cell phone package. She admitted to smuggling in the contraband and was arrested by Dooly County Sheriff's Office.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
