Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 686 CIVILIANS AND 146 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On February 10, 2014, Officer Laretha Tompkins' vehicle was searched by staff due to suspicion that she was introducing contraband into Georgia State Prison. A small amount of marijuana and one gram of methamphetamine was found in her vehicle. A search warrant was also secured and executed at Officer Tompkins' residence. Investigators found 48.7 grams of marijuana and 111.4 grams of methamphetamine inside of her residence. Officer Tompkins was arrested by Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
2.) On February 10, 2014, due to suspicion that Ware State Prison's Food Service Supervisor Katherine Blodgette was introducing contraband into the prison, a request for an investigation to be conducted was made by staff. The investigation determined that contact was made via telephone with the inmate and that money had been placed on a rush card for Blodgette. Food Services Supervisor Blodgette admitted to staff that she brought contraband into the prison. Blodgette was placed under arrest by the Ware County Sheriff's Office.
