Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 769 CIVILIANS AND 181 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
On May 2, 2015, at Telfair State Prison, Officer Labaron Hughes was attempting to enter the facility when staff noticed a smell of marijuana on his person. Staff searched Hughesâ€™ person and found the following contents within a cup of noodles in his possession: 66 grams of tobacco, 68 grams of marijuana, and 19 grams of crystal meth. Hughesâ€™ vehicle was also searched and the following contents were confiscated: 9mm handgun and ammunition, nine cellphones, $494 cash, 6 bags of marijuana found in a lock box and two bags of marijuana found within a soap dish (total weight of 98 grams), and one digital scale. Labaron Hughes was arrested by the Telfair County Sheriffâ€™s Office and charged with crossing a guard line with contraband, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
