Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,408 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On May 24 at Telfair State Prison, a traffic stop near the facility lead to the officer discovering 9 balls wrapped in tape on the side of the road. The contraband consisted of tobacco, rolling papers, methamphetamine, meth pipes, bluetooth speakers, mini screwdrivers, drill bit sets, cell phones, a watch, lighters, headsets, block chargers, and charging cords.  Civilians Daniel Jones, Shantavian Adams, and Varquetta Cradus were arrested and transported to the Telfair County jail.

On May 22 at Johnson State Prison, a subject was seen near the facility’s wood line. Civilian Joseph Bishop was located and found with multiple packages wrapped in black and gray tape. Civilian Bishop was transported to the Johnson County Jail.

On May 18 at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison, during a search of Officer Allen Ramsey’s vehicle a jar of marijuana, and bundles of tobacco wrapped in clear plastic were discovered. Officer Allen was arrested by Butts County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 18 at Macon State Prison, as Officer Lakacya Walton was attempting to enter the facility the body scanner detected an unknown object. Officer Walton consented to a search where a ball wrapped in black tape was discovered on her person, which consisted of marijuana. Officer Walton was arrested and taken to the Macon County Jail.
