Contraband Arrests for Telfair, Wilcox and Coastal State Prisons
MORE THAN 804 CIVILIANS, 200 STAFF ARRESTED TO DATE
- On December 9, at Telfair State Prison, store clerk Melissa Wells attempted to enter the facility with tobacco concealed on her person. The contraband was detected by the Portal Sergeant via body scanner. She was arrested by Telfair County Sheriff's Department.
- On December 11, at Wilcox State Prison, Officer Timothy Collins made several attempts to clear the metal detector but was unsuccessful. It was determined that he had two packages of tobacco wrapped in black electrical tape on his person. Officer Collins was arrested by Abbeville Police Department .
- On December 13, at Coastal State Prison, a shakedown on an inmate prior to his exiting visitation revealed marijuana on his person. The discovery of marijuana led to the search of his visitors, Shabeyon Newsome and Aki Reid and the vehicle they were driving. The vehicle contained 50 Pay Pal Cards, bagged marijuana and additional marijuana in each visitors purse. Visitors Newsome and Reid were arrested by Chatham County Sheriff’s Department.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
