12 Detainees Graduate and Return to Society

Graduation ceremonies hosted at Appling ITF

FORSYTH, Ga. On March 2 and 9, Appling Integrated Treatment Facility honored a total of 12 detainees at a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program graduation ceremony.

“In the past two months, more than 30 men have graduated and returned to their communities,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We are hopeful that these men will continue to implement what they learned from the RSAT program in their daily lives and will be successful in their future endeavors.”

This three-phase, nine-month program is a cognitive behavioral therapy course, implemented in a therapeutic community, in conjunction with our partners at Spectrum. Each phase is comprised of a separate curriculum, to include classes such as Therapeutic Interventions, Substance Abuse Education, Psycho Education, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, and Relapse Prevention. Detainees are required to complete a progression worksheet for each phase.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
