13 Detainees Graduate from the RSAT Program

Detainees complete program and return to society

FORSYTH, Ga. Appling Integrated Treatment Facility held two graduations, February 10th and 17th, for 13 detainees who completed the 9-month Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program. All 13 detainees were released back into their communities following the graduation.

“Twenty-nine men from the Appling ITF program have graduated and returned to society since the beginning of 2016,” said Commissioner Bryson. “I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments and I look forward to seeing this number increase as more citizens return to their communities.”

This three-phase, nine-month program is a cognitive behavioral therapy course, implemented in a therapeutic community, in conjunction with our partners at Spectrum. Each phase is comprised of a separate curriculum, to include classes such as Therapeutic Interventions, Substance Abuse Education, Psycho Education, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, and Relapse Prevention.  Detainees are required to complete a progression worksheet for each phase.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
