Execution Date Set for Lee County Murderer

Warren Lee Hill to be executed on Tuesday, February 19

FORSYTH, Ga. — The Lee County Superior Court has ordered the execution of convicted murderer Warren Lee Hill. The court ordered the Georgia Department of Corrections to carry out the execution Feb. 19-26. Commissioner Brian Owens has set the date for Feb. 19 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson at 7 p.m.

Hill was convicted of the 1991 murder of Joseph Handspike. If executed, Hill will be the 30th inmate put to death by lethal injection.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
