Marcia McIntyre Named New Deputy Director of Probation Operations

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Marcia McIntyre as Deputy Director of Probation Operations effective May 1, 2013. In this capacity, McIntyre will assist the Director of Probation Operations in overseeing the Department's probation officers and more than 160,000 state probationers.

"Marcia has demonstrated outstanding skills and dedication since she started with the department 26 years ago," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "I am confident she will excel in her new position."

McIntyre began her career with the Department in 1987 as a Probation Officer I in the Bell-Forsyth Circuit and was promoted in 1993 to Probation Officer III in Piedmont Circuit. In 2000, she served as Probation Training Unit Manager with Staff Training and Development and was promoted in 2006 as the North Georgia Corrections Training Academy Director at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 2008, McIntyre was promoted to Chief Probation Officer in the Bell Forsyth Circuit and was transferred to the Northeastern Circuit in 2010. She was promoted to Northeast Probation Field Operations Manager in 2012, where she most recently served.

McIntyre earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of West Georgia and a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University. She is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College and Corrections Leadership Institute. She is a POST certified officer, POST certified Senior Training Instructor and Firearms and Defensive Tactics Instructor.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
