New Warden Named at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison - Bruce Chatman Reassigned

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Bruce Chatman as the Warden of Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Jackson, Georgia. As Warden, Chatman will be responsible for overseeing 581 staff members and 2,487 close security male inmates.

"Bruce is the shining example of an effective Warden within the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to his new role as Warden at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison.

Chatman began a career with the Department in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP). In 1991, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Hancock State Prison. Chatman returned to ASMP in 1998 as Deputy Warden of Security. In 1999, he was promoted to Warden at Washington State Prison. He has since served as Warden at Bostick, Hancock, Dooly, Autry and Georgia State Prisons. Chatman has attended Basic Correctional Officer Training, Correctional Leadership Institute, Executive Leadership Training and the Professional Management Program. Chatman has an Associate's degree from Clark College.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
