New Warden Named at Hays State Prison - Scott Crickmar Reassigned

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Scott Crickmar as Warden of Hays State Prison effective July 1, 2013. The facility is located in Trion, Georgia. As Warden, Crickmar will be responsible for overseeing 353 staff members and 1,683 close security male inmates.

"Scott has exhibited excellent leadership qualities throughout his career with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We are confident that his wealth of knowledge will serve him well in this position."

Crickmar began his career with the Department in 2000 as a Counselor at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 2003, he was promoted to Acting Chief Counselor. He transferred to Phillips State Prison in 2007 where he served as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment. In 2012, he was promoted to Warden of Walker State Prison, Georgia's first Faith and Character Based prison, where he most recently served.

Crickmar received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Elon College and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina. He attended Basic Management Training, Corrections Leadership Institute and Basic Correctional Officer Training. He is a veteran of the United States Navy.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
