New Deputy Warden of Administration Named - Debra Hinkle Promoted

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Debra Hinkle to Deputy Warden of Administration at Burruss Correctional Training Center effective February 16, 2014. As Deputy Warden, Hinkle is responsible for overseeing the Business Office, Property/Supply Operations, Maintenance and Food Service departments at the facility housing 808 medium security male inmates located in Forsyth.

"Debra has dedicated 25 years of faithful service to the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "She will bring a wealth of knowledge that will greatly benefit the staff and inmates at Burruss Correctional Training Center."

Hinkle began her career with the Department in 1989 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia Women's Correctional Institute. In 1994, she was promoted to Sales Manager at Men's State Prison and then promoted to Accountant Paraprofessional in 1997 at the same facility. In 2005, Hinkle was promoted to Business Manager at the Macon Diversion Center. She returned to Men's State Prison after accepting a promotion to serve as the Deputy Warden of Administration in 2008. Hinkle was assigned to Business Processes in 2011 and most recently served as Plant Manager for the Georgia Correctional Industries at Hancock State Prison.

Hinkle has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Performance Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute and Primary Government Accounting Series. Additionally, she received a certificate in Accounting from the Baldwin Vocation School.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
