2017 Education Teacher of the Year Named

Billy Riffle recognized

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Dr. Billy Riffle of Turner Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Center as Education Teacher of the Year at the 14^th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on June 19 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Greg Dozier was Chief of Staff Timothy C. Ward, Assistant Commissioners Ricky Myrick, Scott Poitevint, Jay Sanders, Randy Sauls, and Assistant Director of Professional Development Tim Williams and Director of Professional Standards Clay Nix.

“Dr. Riffle teaches his students to strive for excellence in everything they do,” said Assistant Commissioner of Inmate Services Jay Sanders. “He displays exemplary performance above and beyond the normal expectations and his positive spirit is motivating and inspiring to others.”

Riffle’s GED students have a 100 percent pass rate in Math and he has exceeded his fiscal year goal expectation of 30 GED's by earning 47, thus far.

The award recognizes a certified GDC or contract employee who is dedicated and knowledgeable; who inspires students; who is respected and admired by students, facility, and colleagues, and who plays an active role in the facility, as well as the school.
