53 Offenders Graduate at Central State Prison

Ceremony for GED, Vocational, and Faith and Character Based Programs

FORSYTH, Ga. – On October 6, a graduation for GED, Vocational, and Faith and Character Based (F&CB) programs was held at Central State Prison in Macon, GA. There were eight GED graduates, 20 Vocational graduates, and 25 F&CB graduates.

“This occasion marks a new beginning for these 53 graduates,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “Our goal is to prepare each offender for a smooth transition back into society, and education has been shown to greatly benefit our reentry efforts.”

The GED graduates received a GED certificate and were educated in LRR (Literacy Remedial Reading) and ABE (Adult Basic Education). The Vocational graduates received certificates in Heating and Air, Carpentry, or Building Maintenance.  The F&CB participants received a certificate of completion, which demonstrates their understanding of the four phases of the program Foundation, Discovery, Transformation and Transition.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
