82 Offenders Complete RSAT Program

Johnson State Prison hosts graduation ceremonies

FORSYTH, Ga. – During the month of March, 82 offenders completed the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) program at Johnson State Prison (SP). Three graduation ceremonies were hosted throughout the month.

“We are proud of the 82 offenders who completed this rigorous treatment program,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We are committed to providing the necessary services to offenders in our custody, who struggle with substance abuse.”

This nine-month program, provided by Spectrum’s Correctional Recovery Academy, targets high risk, high needs offenders with a history of substance abuse. The goal of the program is to reduce or eliminate drug and alcohol dependence, helping to ensure a successful reentry.

Offenders mandated to complete this program are transferred to Johnson from various facilities. After receiving their completion certificate, they are either sent back to their original facility or paroled.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
