New Director of Audits and Compliance Named - Sharrod Campbell Promoted

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Sharrod Campbell as Director of Audits with the Office of Investigations and Compliance (OIC) effective September 16, 2014. As Director, Campbell will be responsible for managing the annual comprehensive audits of all Category I facilities, security audits of all Category II and III facilities, the auditing process for all Judicial Circuits in the state and the supervision of employees within the Audits and Compliance unit.

“In his 14 years of service, Sharrod has shown tremendous dedication to the Department,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “His leadership and wealth of knowledge will continue to serve him well in his new role.”

Campbell began his career with the Department in 2000 as a Probation Officer I assigned to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit. He served as a Court Officer, Field Officer and Special Enforcement Officer, between 2000-2006, assigned to work with the Atlanta Police Department and Project Safe Neighborhood. In 2006, Campbell joined the Office of Investigations and Compliance as a Criminal Investigator and served as Statewide Security Threat Group (STG) Coordinator. During his tenure as STG Coordinator, he oversaw several initiatives to include an electronic validation system and expanded information sharing within the GDC and with outside law enforcement partners. In 2009, he was assigned to the Apprehension Unit, where he has worked on the United States Marshal Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Taskforce and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Safe Streets Gang Taskforce.

Campbell earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Alabama State University and a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
