New Warden Named for Ware State Prison - Tom Gramiak Appointed

Forsyth — The Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Tom Gramiak as Warden of Ware State Prison, effective January 1, 2014. The facility is located Waycross, Georgia. As the Warden at Ware State Prison, Gramiak will be responsible for overseeing 397 staff members and 1,546 close security male offenders.

“Warden Gramiak has a strong work ethic and his leadership skills set an example for others to follow,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I have no doubt he will continue to be an asset to the department as the warden at Ware State Prison,” added Owens.

Mr. Gramiak began his career at Telfair State Prison as a Correctional Officer in 1992.  While at Smith State Prison, he was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant.  Upon his promotion to Captain, he transferred to Rivers State Prison and Baldwin State Prisons respectively.  In 2000, he was promoted as the Assistant Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center.  He remained at that facility until his promotion to Deputy Warden of Security at Macon State Prison.  In 2003 he transferred to Montgomery State Prison as the Deputy Warden of Security and became the Warden of the facility in July, 2010. He became the Warden at Dooly State Prison in 2011.

Gramiak has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Public Safety Administration.  Gramiak is a graduate of Basic Correctional Officer Training, the Correctional Leadership Institute, Professional Management Program, Warden’s Pre-Command Course, POST Instructor and Firearms Instructor Courses.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
