Commissioner Names New Division Director of Administration - Scott Poitevint Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Scott Poitevint as Division Director of Administration effective January 16, 2015. Poitevint will supersede Becky East who recently accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Georgia Department of Revenue. As Division Director, Poitevint will be responsible for overseeing two main function areas for the agency: Financial Management and Asset Management. Financial Management involves the development, allocation, and management of resources in support of operations and strategic directions as well as the proper execution of agency financial transactions to include purchasing, accounting, and payroll. Asset Management involves the accountability for acquisition, use, maintenance, and review of assets for the agency according to state and federal requirements.

“In his 15 years of service to the agency, Scott has demonstrated a level of leadership and knowledge that is unparalleled,” said Commissioner Owens. “His commitment to excellence as well as his merit of integrity is invaluable to the Department.”

Poitevint began his career with the Department in 1999 as a Manager in the Financial Services department within the Administration division. In 2003, he was promoted to Manager of the Business Support Services department. He was then promoted in 2004 to Deputy Division Director of the Administration division, where he most recently served. Prior to joining the Department, Poitevint began his state career at the Georgia Building Authority in 1988 as an Assistant Budget Officer. In 1989, he was promoted to Budget Officer and in 1991 he was promoted to Assistant Director of Administration before joining the Department.

Poitevint earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. He has completed Corrections Leadership Institute, the Carl Vinson Institute-UGA State Financial Training, and the Executive Leadership Program.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
