FORSYTH, Ga. -- Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Betty McGrew as Deputy Warden of Security at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP), effective July 1, 2015.  Formerly serving as Unit Manager of ASMP, McGrew will now be responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and the overall management and operation of the facility. ASMP currently houses 1,141 close security male inmates.

“Betty has worked her way through the ranks since joining the Department in 1993,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “I am confident that her experience and knowledge will be beneficial to the staff at Augusta State Medical Prison.”

McGrew began her career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at ASMP. While at ASMP, McGrew was promoted to Unit Sergeant in 1997, promoted to Shift Sergeant in 1998, promoted to Shift Lieutenant in 1999 and promoted to Captain in 2001. In 2005, McGrew was promoted to Major at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison. In May of 2006, McGrew was promoted to Unit Manager at ASMP and in September 2006, she was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Hancock State Prison. In 2009, McGrew was reassigned to Bostick State Prison and served as the Deputy Warden of Security. Upon the closure of Bostick SP in 2010, McGrew was reassigned to Unit Manager of ASMP, where she most recently served.

McGrew earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University. During her career with the Department she has completed the following training courses: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Training (PMT), and Warden’s Pre-Command.
