New Director of Engineering & Construction Services Named
- V. Harold 'Hal' Gibson Appointed

FORSYTH, GA. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of V. Harold “Hal” Gibson to Director of Engineering & Construction Services effective August 1, 2015. As Director, Gibson will be responsible for oversight of design, construction and maintenance of new GDC facilities, as well as maintenance of existing GDC facilities.

“Hal has extensive industry knowledge in facility security, design, maintenance and management,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We knew he was the perfect candidate to oversee our Engineering and Construction Services department and are excited to have him join the team.”

Gibson will be joining the Department from his most recent position as President and CEO of Hal Gibson Companies, LLC in West Point, GA, a multi-service consulting firm Gibson founded, and was responsible for the management of more than $2.5 billion in construction projects.  Gibson began his professional career in 1985, serving as Facilities, Safety & Security Manager at Hughes Aircraft Company in LaGrange, Ga. In 1995, Gibson became the Director of Plant Operations, Chief Facilities Officer of Columbus State University, overseeing over $200 million in construction projects. In 2000, Gibson served as Director of Preventive Maintenance and Special Projects, where he developed a system-wide preventive maintenance program to include a web-based maintenance management system.  In 2001, Gibson was appointed Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Operations at the University System of Georgia in Atlanta, where he provided leadership on design, construction, and management of 35 institutions to include 3,600 buildings over 90,000 acres until 2006, when he founded Hal Gibson Companies, LLC.

Gibson earned an Associate of Science in General Business from Southern Union State Community College in Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science in Textile Management & Technology from Auburn University School of Engineering.
