New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Central State Prison - Michael Thomas Promoted
Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Michael Thomas to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Central State Prison (SP) effective August 16, 2015. The facility is located in Macon, Georgia. Formally Chief Counselor at Central SP, Thomas will now be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of 1,097 medium security male inmates.
“During his short time with the Department, Michael has shown great leadership skills,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “I know he will be an effective leader in his new role at Central State Prison.”
Thomas began his career with the Department in 2010 as a Counselor at Macon State Prison. In 2013, Thomas was promoted to Chief Counselor at Central SP, where he most recently served.
Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Campbellsville University. Thomas has completed the following departmental training programs: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Deputy Warden’s Academy and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
