Bishop Execution Media Advisory

FORSYTH, Ga. – The execution of condemned murderer Joshua Daniel Bishop scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson was carried out at 9:27 p.m. in accordance with state law. Bishop accepted a final prayer and recorded a final statement. 

Bishop was convicted in 1996 for the murder of Leverett Lewis Morrison in Baldwin County. 

There have been 61 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Bishop was the 40th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 65 men on death row in Georgia.
