Colwell Probation Detention Center Hosts Graduation Ceremony

Eighteen offenders receive certificates

FORSYTH, Ga. –  On June 7, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), in partnership with the North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Adult Education WIOA grant program, hosted a combined Culinary and Auto Maintenance and Light Repair graduation.   During the ceremony, ten detainees were presented with certificates in ServSafe Management and eight detainees received certificates in Auto Maintenance and light repair technician certificates.

“Our partners play a vital role in ensuring detainees are equipped with the tools necessary to obtain gainful employment upon release,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward.  “It is imperative that they learn essential skills in order to make a successful transition back into their communities.”

The Culinary program provides participants with the knowledge and skills to become certified as ServSafe Managers.  ServSafe is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the National Restaurant Association.

The Auto Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician certificate program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the field as entry-level technicians to diagnose, service, and repair basic electrical/electronic automotive systems. Topics covered include automotive shop safety, electrical theory and circuit diagnosis, automotive batteries, starting and charging systems, instrumentation, air conditioning, lighting, and various vehicle accessories.
