Washington State Prison Hosts Faith & Character Based Dorm Open House

Dorm motto: Do what is right, not what is easy

FORSYTH, Ga. On May 18, Washington State Prison hosted an open house to officially launch their Faith & Character Based (F&CB) Dorm. There are 104 offenders currently participating in the F&CB program, which started February 16 at the facility located in Davisboro, GA. During the event, offenders shared music, original poetry, and a skit that demonstrated the 12-month programs’ four phases.

“I am excited about the addition of a Faith and Character Based Dorm to Washington State Prison,” said Commissioner Bryson. “Graduates of the Faith and Character Based program are 10 times less likely to return to prison after completing it.”

The mission of Washington’s F&CB program is for offenders to foster the change within themselves necessary to develop the knowledge, self-awareness and positive outlook needed to become responsible, productive, trustworthy and respected members of society. To be considered for the program, offenders must be disciplinary free for six months and have more than 12 months remaining on their sentence.

The program consists of four phases: Character Development, Leadership Development, Transformation & Effective Communication, and Re-entry. Once an offender completes all fours phases, he graduates from the program and can be selected as a peer instruction or a mentor.
