Hittson Execution Media Advisory

Inmate’s Last Meal

FORSYTH, Ga. – Condemned murderer Travis Clinton Hittson is scheduled for execution by lethal injection at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Hittson was sentenced to death in 1993 for the murder of Navy Seaman Conway Utterbeck.

Media witnesses for the execution are: Rhonda Cook, Atlanta Journal Constitution; Kate Brumback, Associated Press; Raymond Tubb, WGXA TV; and Cheri Adams, Houston Home Journal.

Hittson declined to request a last meal. He will be receiving the institutional tray consisting of meatloaf patties, brown gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, red beans, cornbread, bread pudding and orange beverage.

There have been 60 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. If executed, Hittson will be the 39th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 75 men on death row in Georgia.

The Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison is located 45 minutes south of Atlanta off Interstate 75. From Atlanta, take exit 201 (Ga. Hwy. 36), turn left over the bridge and go approximately ¼ mile. The entrance to the prison is on the left. Media covering the execution will be allowed into the prison’s media staging area beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
