Inmate Death Being Investigated as Apparent Suicide
October 29, 2017
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Phillips State Prison in Buford, Ga, as an apparent suicide.
At 2:10 p.m. on October 29, a Correctional Officer found inmate Demitri Carter (GDC #1001507614) unresponsive in his cell. Prison medical staff provided life saving measures to revive him and he was pronounced deceased at 2:50 p.m. by an on-call medical doctor. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.
Carter was sentenced in 2014, in Cherokee County, for Aggravated Assault. Further information and photographs can be found on the GDC website at http://www.gdc.ga.gov.
