Jack Roberts Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Jack Roberts as the County Prison Coordinator effective November 16, 2015. As County Prison Coordinator, Roberts will oversee 23 facilities in counties across the state.

“Jack has developed a wide range of knowledge and skills during his 31 years of service,” said Commissioner Bryson. “His experience will be of great benefit to county prisons statewide.”

Roberts began his career with the Department in 1984 as a Probation Officer at Albany Diversion Center.  In 1988, he transferred to the Probation Operations division at Central Office as a Training Officer.  He became the Field Training Officer for Southwest Georgia in 1989, and was promoted to Superintendent of the Albany Diversion Center in 1990.  In 2003, he was selected as the Facilities Regional Operations Coordinator for Diversion Centers.  Under a reorganization plan in 2004, Roberts returned to the Albany Diversion Center as the Superintendent.  In 2005, he transferred to Albany Transitional Center as the Superintendent, where he most recently served.

Roberts received his Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Albany State University.  During his career with the Department, he completed Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Probation Officer Training (BPOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), POST IT, Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), and Wardens Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
