New Assistant Commissioner of Health Services

Jack “Randy” Sauls named

FORSYTH, Ga. – As a part of the Georgia Department of Corrections’ (GDC) continuing efforts to better align our organizational structure with our mission, Commissioner Homer Bryson is pleased to announce the newest addition to our team, Jack Randall Sauls, who will be serving in the newly created and vital role of Assistant Commissioner of Health Services effective August 1, 2016.

“With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare administration, we are confident in his ability to lead our healthcare initiatives to an even greater level of excellence,” said Commissioner Bryson.

Sauls joins our agency from his most recent position as a Consultant and Adviser with the South Georgia Toxicology and Primera Health Group. His past experience includes more than 20 years serving in various leadership positions at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga., including 11 years as Chief Operating Officer and four years as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to serving at the Medical Center, Sauls served as Administrator at Lanier Health Services and Interim Administrator at Clinch Memorial Hospital.  

Sauls holds an Associate of Science degree from Abraham Baldwin College, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Business Administration from Albany State University. Sauls is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the Association of University Programs in Healthcare Administration. In addition, he has served as an adjunct faculty member in Healthcare Administration with the Harley Langdale, Jr. College of Business as well as served on numerous healthcare associated Boards.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
