New Deputy Warden of Administration at Smith State Prison

Jennifer Jarriel Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Jennifer Jarriel to deputy warden of administration at Smith State Prison (SP), effective April 16, 2019. In this role, Jarriel will be responsible for overseeing the business office, property/supply operations and food service departments at the facility which houses 1,545 close security male offenders.

“Jarriel has shown extraordinary leadership skills during her tenure with the department,” Ward said. “I have the upmost confidence in her ability to utilize her skills and continue the great work they are doing at Smith SP.”

Jarriel began her career with Georgia Department of Corrections in 2015 as an accountant paraprofessional at Coastal SP. Later that year, she was promoted to business manager, where she currently supervises the Business Office and Commissary Operations.

Jarriel received her Associate of Arts degree from Coastal Carolina Community College and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Columbus State University.  She has completed the following departmental training: Georgia Certified Purchasing Associate (GCPA) Certification, Basic Management Training, Supervision I, II and III, Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), and the Governmental Accounting series through Carl Vinson Institute of Government.  Jarriel is currently enrolled in the Budget and Financial Management certification course and the Professional Management Program (PMP) through Columbus State University.
