New Deputy Warden of Security at Johnson State Prison

Edginald Gibbons Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Edginald Gibbons, to Deputy Warden of Security at Johnson State Prison, effective March 16, 2018. As the Deputy Warden, Gibbons will be responsible for overseeing 190 staff members and more than 1,550 medium security male offenders

“Gibbons has spent over 20 years working his way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.  “We are confident that his leadership and experience will be a positive impact on the staff and offenders at Johnson State Prison.”

Gibbons began his career with the Department in 1996, as a Correctional Officer at Emanuel Probation Detention Center.  He was promoted to Sergeant at Augusta State Medical Prison in 2004 and in 2005, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Washington State Prison.  In 2014, he was promoted to Captain at Augusta State Medical Prison and in 2015, he was promoted to Unit Manger.  In 2017, he was transferred to Johnson State Prison as a Unit Manager, where he currently serves.

Gibbons holds a Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix.  His departmental training consists of: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and the Professional management Program (PMP).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
