New Deputy Warden of Security at the Special Management Unit

Flemister Wiley Promoted


FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Flemister Wiley to Deputy Warden of Security at the Special Management Unit (SMU) effective April 1, 2023. As Deputy Warden of Security, Wiley will oversee security staff members and SMU male offenders.


"Wiley has worked his way up through the ranks and demonstrated exceptional work ethic during his tenure with the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that he will continue to excel and ensure our mission of public safety and the safe and secure operations of the facility are upheld."


Wiley began his career with the GDC in 1994 as a Correctional Officer (CO) at Calhoun State Prison (SP), and in 1995, he transferred to Lee SP as a Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. After a brief departure from the department in 1999, Wiley returned in 2003, as a CO and Tact Squad Commander at Phillips SP. During his tenure at Phillips SP, he was promoted to Lieutenant, and in 2008, he transferred to Rockdale Probation Detention Center (PDC) as Chief of Security. Upon the closure of Rockdale PDC, he returned to Phillips SP as a Disciplinary Hearing Officer. In 2011, Wiley was assigned to the COBRA unit and was promoted to PSTI I in BCOT shortly thereafter. In 2014, he was promoted to Special Operation Training Major, where he currently serves.


Wiley's departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Special Operations (CERT/TACT) Basic and Commanders Training, Corrections Leadership Institute, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Sergeants Academy, Mobile Field Force, Hostage Rescue Training, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, and POST Instructor Training.
