New Private Prison Monitor at Coffee Correctional Facility
Edwina Johnson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Edwina Johnson to Private Prison Monitor at Coffee Correctional Facility, effective January 1, 2021. As Private Prison Monitor, Johnson will be responsible for monitoring the facility’s operations, to ensure that all contract conditions are met, and the facility operates with a continuous focus on sanitation, safety, and security.

“Johnson has shown exceptional leadership skills in her 20 years with the agency,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “I am confident her knowledge and professionalism will serve her well in her new role at Coffee Correctional Facility.”

Johnson started her career with the State of Georgia in 1988 as a Case Manager with the Department of Family and Children Services.  In 2000, she began her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections as a Counselor at Smith State Prison (SP), and then transferred to Ware SP.  During her tenure at ware, she was promoted to Chief Counselor in 2011 and Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment in 2012, where she currently serves. 

Johnson holds an Associate degree in Education from Brenton Parker Jr. College and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Savannah State College.  She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Counselor Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment Academy, Corrections Leadership Institute, Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training, Mental Health Training, Supervision I, II, and II, and Management I, II, and II.
