New Superintendent at Long Unit

Jessie Williams Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Interim Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Jessie Williams to superintendent at Long Unit effective December 16, 2018. As superintendent, Williams will be responsible for overseeing approximately 66 staff members and 212 minimum security offenders.

“Williams has proven herself to be a capable and competent leader,” Ward said. “The work she has put in at Long Unit already is nothing short of exemplary and the agency looks forward to seeing her grow in her career with GDC.”

Williams began her career with GDC in 1994 as a correctional officer at Smith State Prison (SP).  While working at Smith SP, she rose through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and unit manager over the Tier Program.  In 2016, Williams was promoted to assistant superintendent at Long Unit, where she currently serves.

Williams is pursuing her criminal justice degree through Columbus State University and Armstrong State University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Basic Management Training, Wardens Pre-Command, Assistant Superintendent Academy and the Professional Management Program.
