New Warden at McRae Women’s Facility

Aimee Smith Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. –  Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the reassignment of Aimee Smith from Warden at Dooly State Prison (SP) to Warden at McRae Women’s Facility (WF) effective March 1, 2023. As Warden, Smith will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and female offenders. Smith will assume her post at McRae WF ahead of it’s official opening to ensure a smooth transition for both staff and offenders.  The facility is expected to be operational late 2023.

“Smith has worked her way up through the ranks and has been a true asset to the agency during her 28-year tenure,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident she will create a safe and secure environment at the newly established McRae WF, while mainintaing the GDC mission.”

Smith began her career with the department in 1995 as a Correctional Officer at Wilcox State Prison (SP). In 1997, Smith was transferred to Burruss Correctional Training Center as a Correctional Officer II and was promoted to Sergeant in 2000.
