New Warden at Phillips State Prison

J. Kevin Perry Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of J. Kevin Perry to Warden at Phillips State Prison (SP) effective June 16, 2021. As Warden, Perry will be responsible for overseeing approximately 297 staff members and 849 close security male offenders.

“Perry has been a bold and courageous leader during his 28 years with the agency,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident that his experience and correctional expertise will benefit the staff and offenders at Phillips SP.”

Perry began his career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 1994, he transferred to Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP) as a Correctional Officer II, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2002. Perry transferred to Phillips State Prison in 2004 and rose through the ranks as Lieutenant, Captain, and Unit Manager. In 2015, Perry was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Clayton Transitional Center, and in 2016 he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips State Prison.  In 2021, he was promoted to Superintendent at Phillips Transitional Center, where he currently serves.

Perry is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice through Columbus State University. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, Advanced Management Training, Basic Counselor Training, PREA Compliance Manager Training, Deputy Warden’s Academy, and Wardens Pre-Command.
