RESCUED Dog Program Graduation 14

Colwell Probation Detention Center trains and prepares dogs for adoption

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections’ RESCUED program, a partnership between Colwell Probation Detention Center (PDC) and the Humane Society Mountain Shelter and Cast Off Pet Rescue, held a graduation ceremony on January 5, 2016 in Blairsville, Ga. This graduation marks the 14^th round of dogs to be saved and rehabilitated, since the program’s inception in August 2012.

“I am thankful for the opportunity that both the Humane Society Mountain Shelter and Cast Off Pet Rescue have afforded the men at the Colwell Probation Detention Center,” said Commissioner Bryson. “These are the types of partnerships that we need to continue to build, in order to provide our returning citizens the tools needed to become productive and law abiding citizens.”

RESCUED is a 10-week program where detainees rescue and rehabilitate dogs, which would otherwise be euthanized. Once the program is complete, each detainee receives certificates in Dog Grooming through Central Georgia Technical College, Pet First Aid and CPR through Cold Nose College, Basic Computer and Resume Building through North Georgia Technical College, Problem Solving Based on Spirituality by St. Francis of Assisi, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Humane Society Mountain Shelter.
