New Superintendent Named at Treutlen Probation Detention Center

Van Harris Promoted

FORSYTH, GA - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Van Harris as Superintendent at Treutlen Probation Detention Center effective February 1, 2016.  Harris will now be responsible for overseeing 70 staff members and 295 male offenders.

“Van’s 27 years of experience will be very beneficial to Treutlen Probation Detention Center as he assumes his new role as Superintendent,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He will be great a mentor to staff and residents alike.”

Harris began his career with the Department in 1989 as a Correctional Officer at Rogers State Prison. In 1993, he transferred to Treutlen Probation Detention Center and served as a Correctional Officer II. During his tenure at Treutlen Probation Detention Center, he served as Sergeant and Chief of Security. Then in 2007, Harris was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at the same facility, where he most recently served.

Harris has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), and Warden’s Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
