Walker State Prison hosts GED Graduation Ceremony

10 offenders earn their diploma

FORSYTH, Ga. – On July 7, 10 offenders received their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) at Walker State Prison in Rock Springs, GA.

“Education is a key step in the success of offenders upon their reentry,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are proud of the hard work of these 10 men, and we hope they continue furthering their education, through vocational and post-secondary programs.”

The GED program provides educational services catered to offenders who did not complete their high school education prior to incarceration. Students must pass tests in four basic subject areas to acquire their GED: Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
