Contraband Arrests at Calhoun, Smith, and Dodge State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 795 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
  1. On January 22, at Calhoun State Prison, Officer Laquenda Smith attempted to enter the facility and her meal did not clear the metal detector. When examined by the X-ray machine, two cellphones were discovered inside her meal. She was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.

  2. On January 23, at Smith State Prison, Visitor Marques Bostic was checking in at the front entry when marijuana was found on his person. He was arrested by the Glennville Police Department.

  3. On January 24, at Dodge State Prison, Visitor Latoya Wilcher went into the restroom and returned with a handful of paper towels. Wilcher was stopped by officers before entering back into visitation after a strong odor of marijuana was detected. While being approached by officers she dropped the paper towels into the trashcan. The trashcan was searched and 14 small balloons filled with marijuana wrapped in paper towels were recovered. Visitor Wilcher was arrested by the Dodge County Sheriff's Department.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
