Contraband Arrests at Ware and Rogers State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 905 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On December 25, Visitor Donna Hanson was attempting to enter Ware State Prison for visitation when the body scanner detected an unknown object on her person. Visitor Hanson gave consent to be searched, and admitted to having contraband. The following contraband was found on Visitor Hanson’s person: an unknown amount of suspected marijuana and methamphetamine, wrapped in clear plastic and black electrical tape. Visitor Hanson was arrested by Ware County Sheriff’s Office.

On December 28, a suspicious vehicle was seen crossing the guard line and turning around at Rogers State Prison. Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department was called, and upon arrival, the suspicious vehicle was stopped and searched. The driver, Rebecca Wilkerson, and the passenger, Dereck Williams, were arrested after contraband was recovered inside of the vehicle. The vehicle contained .02 ounces of marijuana and .02 ounces of methamphetamine.
