Library Services

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) library services are one library holding housed in 34 plus correctional facilities throughout the State of Georgia. GDC libraries support all academic and vocational education programs, leisure reading, and Law Library needs for offenders.  GDC library goals are to provide books that inspire, educate, and broaden the perspective of all patrons.  We continue striving to build a library collection that is relevant and uplifting, while offering lifelong learning and value for the patrons of the GDC library, both staff and inmates.

Many studies have proven that inmates who use the library more have an increasingly higher literacy rate than those who do not use the library at all (lEFLAND, 2012)

Library Donation Program

Georgia's prison library system relies primarily on donations to stock our library shelves, so we gladly welcome your donations! Our book donation center is located in Milledgeville in the Arnall Building at 2271 Vinson Highway.  Regular donation hours have not been established yet, but we will happily coordinate a time to meet you there for a drop-off.  If you would prefer a book pick-up instead, we can arrange that, as well.
